Fire Plan Location Signs in compliance with IMO MSC/Circ. 451

The Fire Control Plan is a mandatory requirement of SOLAS convention that provides information about fire stations, type of fire detection system and fire-fighting systems available in the ship.
 
Each officer on the vessel must be supplied with a copy of this Fire Control Plan, and a duplicate set of the plan shall be permanently available on board in an accessible position.

As noted by The Maritime Safety Committee regarding regulation II-2/20.2 of the 1974 SOLAS Convention as amended, this duplicate set of Fire Control Plan (or a booklet containing such plan) must be permanently stored in a prominently marked weathertight enclosure outside the deckhouse.

The Maritime Safety Committee has confirmed the importance of having Fire Control Plan’s information readily available on board for the assistance of shoreside fire-fighting personnel. In fact, a Fire Control Plan is an important part of the safety management plan of the ship and the fire-fighting station team has no knowledge about the ship arrangement. Therefore, the enclosure must be easily accessible, so that in case of fire on board, the shoreside fire-fighting personnel will not have the access to it cut off.

The enclosure should be red, and its location should be indicated by a red ship figure on a white background sign with dimensions not inferior to 297 x 400mm. If the enclosure is not adjacent to the gangway, the sign must include a red arrow showing the direction where the Fire Control Plan enclosure is located.
